Hello all,
Another great story in the news today, "Croatia Way Behind On Solving Y2K Bug," http://dailynews.yahoo.com/headlines/tc/story.html?s=v/nm/19990330/tc/y2k_croatia_1.html since Reuters prints Y2K press releases without checking the facts I'm been forced to correct the story.
Croatia Behind Y2K "Eight Ball"
The unwashed masses believe not having a computer is a safe haven from the Y2K bug. Try telling that to the Croatians.
Trapped between Bosnia and Slovenia this vowel laden nation has yet to spend a single lipa ($0.0000015 US) on the Y2K problem.
If Croatia wants to avoid blackouts, water shortages, broken kneecaps and other possible problems, they will have to cough up $600 million (US) explains Vito, a well known Y2K enforcer. "I know 600 mill is more Croatian kunas (HRK) than their printing presses could crank out in 10 years running flat out down hill but I'm a bill collector not a chaplain. Serbia thought they play and not pay. Now whose getting their ethnic clock cleansed?"
Marijan Frkovic, head of the Croatian Computer Complex (better known as "Stonehenge by the Adriatic"), admits they've been "aware of the problem for some time" but their computer vendor has been out of business for over 3000 years. Frkovic, born with too many consonants in his name and one of the few citizens with a steel chisel, confesses off the record "adding more digits to the date by hand would take decades."
Croatian Telecommunications, the only phone system in the world constructed entirely from cat gut and goat's stomachs, waited until January to begin evaluating their Y2K exposure. Now they fear they may have to revert to older technology like yelling really loud.
The Croatian government hopes to award its first grant for a media campaign to raise public awareness of the problem before the end of the year. Possible campaign slogans include "Y2K: The Silent Killer," "Y2K means not having to remember tomorrow," "Y2K: A day late and a digit short," "Y2K: Alarm clock without a snooze bar?" "How Ethnic Albanians Wrecked Our Computer," and "Vito knows where out children sleep."
Of course, I'm psycho. You can tell by the babble.

P.S.
A war without ground troops is like oral sex without touching. Theoretically possible but not very fucking likely.
P.P.S.
Clinton, having missed his generation's war, has chosen to start his own. "I wouldn't want Chelsea to grow up without a draft to dodge."
